Resting atop a deep blue glass cube, a small gold head emerges with quiet presence, transforming the sculpture into another of Bertil’s self‑contained worlds, simple in form, yet rich in suggestion.
2023 marked the 60th anniversary of Bertil Vallien’s collaboration with Kosta Boda Glassworks in Sweden. To celebrate this milestone, he launched an exclusive collection of new works representing his great work.
In the Artist Collection Fortress series, Vallien expresses our place on earth and the significance of the house and home within this world.
“My home, my castle, my place on earth. The house and home are profound symbols, powerful metaphors for so much in life – security, family, self, my possessions, my world. It is a decorative object, but if one wants to it encompasses so much more. This is a theme that I strived to refine to get to the very core.”
